Do I need to be a certain age, size or shape to bellydance?
The wonderful world of tribal bellydance welcomes all ages, shapes and sizes. You need no previous dance experience to begin, just a willingness to learn and have fun! If you have a medical condition, injury or are pregnant, please consult your doctor and let us know before starting class.
How long does it take to learn bellydance?
Like any other dance form, learning to bellydance takes time. The key is regular practice and patience bearing in mind that everyone learns at a different pace. After 12-18 weeks of regular class you should have a good understanding of the fundamental movements, and be on your way to dancing with others.
Which class to join? Where to start?
It’s important that students are comfortable with and competent in the level that they are at, before moving up. To enable this, we ask all dancers that are new to our classes to start on the basic level so we can assess their skill level and ascertain which level they should be in. If you have any question about this please send an email to Oslo Tribal Bellydance School.
Do I need to register for class or just turn up on the night?
We encourage dancers to sign up for a full class term in order to gain the most out of class. Your class registrations is binding. It’s advisable to register before joining as space is limited, however students are welcome to drop in to our basic classes.
How to pay for class?
Please bring full payment to your first day of class or transfer the class fee on beforehand. You will receive the bank account number upon registration. Cash only for drop ins.
What to wear and bring to class?
Comfortable clothing which you can dance in – yoga/gym pants or a loose fitting skirt with a tank top or choli. Please remove your shoes as soon as you enter the studio area. Bring finger cymbals (zills) to class if that is required, a bottle of water, an open mind and a smile!
Where do I get costuming and music?
For a beginning student, we recommend starting off your costuming with a black cotton choli and a 10 yard skirt as these are the staple pieces of ATS® costuming. In terms of music, we recommend starting out with music by Helm and FatChanceBellyDance®. This music was created especially for Tribal Bellydance and will help you gain an understanding of the rhythms ATS® dancers most frequently dance to.
